In 1954, Ada Masotti, an Italian artisan skilled in the tradition of hand-crafted Italian corsetry, founded a lingerie atelier in Bologna. Based on the simple philosophy that a woman is most sexily dressed when she is undressed, the Masotti family has been cultivating a tradition of beautiful undergarments since the mid-20th century. It was in her small Bologna atelier that Masotti combined the craftsmanship and artistry of haute couture with her innate understanding of women. The exquisitely crafted line of fine lingerie created by Masotti was inspired by the rare beauty of discovering a precious jewel. The name "La Perla" was inspired by the case lined in red velvet in which she presented her creations as if they were delicate pearls.
La Perla continues to be a family owned and operated business with Alberto Masotti, Ada's son, serving as the company president, and his wife Olga as the head designer. La Perla's factory and design studios remain on the outskirts of Bologna's industrial district, where impeccable quality and attention to detail are of the utmost importance. La Perla is internationally acclaimed as the leader in fine lingerie, recognized for their exquisite level of taste, sophistication and quality unparalleled by any other.
La Perla evokes the characteristics of beauty and perfection coveted by the most sophisticated women in the world. Rather than simply sketching and fitting to mannequins, the La Perla designers prefer to create each pattern by draping fabric on live models, allowing for a dynamic fit and an exceptional understanding of the female form. Each La Perla collection is a gesture of love.
