The 135-year-old company was founded by Pauline Zimmerli-Bauerlin, a Swiss seamstress and teacher from Aarburg, Switzerland. As a teacher of needlework, she gave the highest marks for meticulous finishing and the best sewing. Zimmerli-Bauerlin is also regarded as the founder of the Swiss knitting industry, having imported the first knitting machine into Switzerland.
