Chantelle's origin dates back to 1876, when François Auguste Gamichon used the discovery of the rubber vulcanization process to make the first knits in his Romilly factory. He joined forces with his nephew, the first representative of the Kretz family which still manages the company to this day. In 1878, the company showcased innovation by creating the first elasticized fabrics stretchable in two directions, opening up new possibilities for innovative corset makers and revolutionizing the market with elastic designs. In 1961, the company hired British corset maker, Miss Hadley, whose secrets of the trade continue to influence the designs and craftsmanship of Chantelle lingerie.
The craft, expertise and secrets of Chantelle have been passed on from generation to generation of seamstresses through the years. This level of dedication offers women everyday undergarments made of rich fabrics and feature a precise fit, similar in feel to couture design. In 1970, the popularity of Chantelle was established with the Fete collection, which was made of Calais lace, and sold over one million units each year for many years. In 1972, Chantelle launched another major innovation with its Defi collection, which included the first seamless bra with molded cups.
Since then, Chantelle has continued its expansion throughout the world, making it the number one French lingerie company on the international market. The name Chantelle is akin to fine lingerie. Parisian, bold and spontaneous, the French allure of Chantelle lingerie cannot be explained. Chantelle's products offer quality, comfort and fit like no other.
